Keep showing up.

On July 13 of this year, I decided to write a blog post every day, except for Mondays, when I would write a story.

In the beginning, I struggled. I was filling in a lot of days long after they passed. Even now, I have some catching up to do.

But all of it got easier over time.

It’s the same for any writing. If you have dreamed of doing it, but don’t know how to start, then try this: show up on the page and write a few words for a few minutes. It doesn’t matter how good or bad it is. The critical step is doing it.

Then show up the next day and the day after that. Keep doing it repeatedly until it becomes easier to show up and put words on the page. If you do it enough times, you’ll slowly learn your craft and build up a body of work that you can be proud of.

There are no real secrets to becoming a writer. It means showing up and doing the work. It just requires the commitment to do it for a long time.

Good luck.
