It’s always a daily challenge
The creative work is half the battle.
For the past few days, I’ve been sharing a lot about giving yourself the time and space to let the writing come.
I’ve encouraged you not to rush your creative practice, to let yourself fail, and, my favourite, to let the words spark together on the page.
As with most of these posts, they’re not bits of advice I’m only passing on to you. They’re also for me.
Lately, I’ve been struggling with my fiction—a nasty combination of being busy teaching and worrying about the rushed quality of the last couple of stories. These two things led me to put off writing and focus on the work, which became a full-on avoidance of the work.
I think I’m past it now, but it’s a good reminder: writing is always a daily practice, and we can all have good days and bad. Our goal is to keep showing up and trying, no matter what.
