The map is not the territory
Many writing books are maps to traverse the unknown territory of storytelling.
They offer plenty of signposts, landmarks, and safe paths to arrive at your destination.
But of course, there's plenty more country to discover than what they show you. And you can investigate it all.
You just might get lost, or it might take you a little longer to make the trip.
I'm not saying you need to stray, but you also might discover new and exciting things when you explore.
And you'll build your own maps and shortcuts the more you take the journey. It will be familiar territory that makes you feel safe.
But always know there might be more out there—you'll just have to wander a little to discover it.
